Hello. I go by the name of Shixuan, it’s not my real name but it will do.
This is the website I have created to be the home of my web novel series, Serial Transmigrator.
If you are interested in why I am doing this, then get comfortable, it’s a pretty short story but I tend to drag things on.
I have lived most of my life thus far, having no interest in reading. My favourite form of entertainment has been anime ever since I saw Naruto on TV many moons ago. Fast forward a few lazy years, I found myself in my final year of university. The problem is, the summer before, I was watching Overlord season 2. After finishing it, I had to see more, so I took to the internet and found the manga. Unfortunately, the manga wasn’t too far from the end of season two and I just couldn’t take it.
After looking around a little more I found to my dismay that Overlord was originally a web novel and is now a light novel. ‘I have to read? Manga was already pushing it’ is what I thought at the time. But my desire to know what happened next led me to read the light novel. At first, it was the same as all literature, boring, but after a while, I found myself able to read it all night and it was especially boosted by some very nicely placed songs in my shuffled looping playlist of the Overlord season 1 and 2 soundtracks that fit perfectly with what was currently happening.
After catching up to the release I found myself in the abyss. ‘What am I to do now?’ I thought as I entered “Light novels similar to overlord” in google. I ended up finding some other things and eventually got on the road of Chinese martial arts web novels. For the past few months, I spent all of my free time reading these web novels. I found a lot of interesting stuff but the number of them that I dropped was large.
Quantity but the quality’s questionable
There are only 5 or 6 stories that I am currently interested in reading further out of the probably over 50 that I have read at least some part of, the rest I dropped. I had read up to at least chapter 30 for the few that had interesting synopses but didn’t quite grab my attention. For most of them, I had read over 200+ chapters before dropping them. And a few I dropped 500+ chapters in. One of them was 1000+ chapters in before I dropped it and I felt like I had wasted a lot of time. Most of these chapters took about 10 minutes to read, which is many many hours when you add it all up.
All of these stories had one thing in common. At one point the story went in a direction that I found unacceptable, so I stopped reading it. It’s a shame when everything was going pretty good until the author introduced something that I just didn’t want to keep reading. For example, a character was changed from a boy into a girl in one of the stories. This in itself wasn’t anything too disagreeable, as long as it was temporary.
Why are you stalling?
The method to turn him back was already made known to the readers, another of the characters had the method to turn him back but was using it as a card to control the other, which makes sense. I had the feeling that the author would find reasons to never turn the character back into a boy, which I would find unacceptable, so I searched it up.
I found out that to the current release, which was a few hundred chapters ahead, the character was still a girl, and on top of that, another boy was turned into a girl! ‘Author, what are you thinking?’ is what I asked, speaking to no one. Now it’s entirely possible that these two boys will turn back but I’m not willing to spend the time required to find out. I could no longer read it properly because this would always be stuck in my head causing me to be unable to focus on the plot.
Pain in the side
Imagine the main character is about to go through some crazy tribulation, but all you can think is ‘Why is that other character still a girl? No for real, why? What are your intentions author? Why didn’t you just introduce a female character? This, this. Oh, what? The tribulation’s over? Shoot I have to read it again, but seriously why?’. For this reason, I decided that once these iffy plot points came in I would just move on and find another story.
Another story caused me to loath harems but that’s a story for another day.
More so out of necessity rather than inspiration
Whenever I would get into a story, I would start having dreams that continued the story where I left it. It got to the point that I was mixing up my dreams and the actual events.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I had just dropped another story that I had read 800+ chapters of. In frustration, I thought ‘Dang it I should just make my own story’. The next volume of Overlord wasn’t going to be here for a long time.
So I started to think about what kind of story I wanted to make. During the process, I realized that writing a story would be hard work so I dropped the idea. But then I started to have dreams of the characters I was making up. I saw how they looked and their stories so after a few weeks, I decided to just go for it. And here we are.
I realized that I liked all kinds of world settings: cultivation world, swords & magic, otome game, trashy noble, villainess’ brother, VR game, game-like world and all sorts of things I had seen. So I decided to have a story where the main character goes to all sorts of worlds, hence Serial Transmigrator.
Hey, maybe he will be born as a girl in one of them.
After solidifying the idea, I thought it would be good to have each world be its own web novel. And so this is the home of my series Serial Transmigrator.
